How are we helping with COVID-19?

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, Easter Seals Alberta is closely monitoring the situation and is taking appropriate action to ensure the health and safety of our clients, staff, and volunteers. We are ensuring, where possible, that people have accessibility equipment such as stair lifts and other mobility equipment in their homes to continue staying in their homes. We continue to provide stable housing at McQueen Home and taking precautions to ensure the safety and health of our residents. In addition, we have increased cleaning of all surfaces at Camp Horizon to help mitigate the risk to visitors.

What do I do if I want to get a refund for my camp fees?

Can groups still rent our facility? 

We are continuing to accept booking requests at this time. If you’re interested in bringing a group out to Camp Horizon, please use the Booking Request Form on our website or email camphorizon@easterseals.ab.ca.

Are you still booking weddings at Camp Horizon?

Yes, we are still taking wedding bookings at Camp Horizon for 2021 and 2022. You can take a virtual tour of our site by visiting https://easterseals.ab.ca/facility-rentals/ or emailing weddings@easterseals.ab.ca

Are we still taking applications for volunteers? 

Yes, anyone who is interested in volunteering at Camp Horizon can send an email to volunteercoordinator@easterseals.ab.ca.

What measures are we taking to protect the residents against COVID-19?

We have extensive infection control processes in place at all times and have increased the cleaning of high touch areas. The house is currently under quarantine from visitors and the residents are asked not to go out unless necessary. Should any residents how symptoms there are extensive procedures to follow from Alberta Health Services and Public Health would then provide further directives as to whether the resident in question is to be treated onsite or transported to the hospital. 

How are the residents doing with being isolated? 

The residents are all healthy and doing well. 

Accessibility Supports

Are you still accepting equipment applications?

Yes, our equipment applications re-open on February 1st, 2021 with a new application. Please ensure you are only submitting the most up to date applications.

Can I submit an old application?

No, we have created new application forms and will not be accepting applications with the old format.

What forms from your website to I need to submit with my application?

If you are applying for power mobility equipment or a hospital bed, you will submit the Client Equipment Funding Request Form, Occupational or Physiotherapist Assessment, and Medical Report Form.

For all other equipment requests, you will submit the Client Equipment Funding Request Form ONLY.

What types of equipment are eligible for funding?

Easter Seals Alberta will consider funding proposals for power mobility devices (i.e. scooters, power wheelchairs), lifts (i.e. vertical lifts, porch lifts, stair lifts), hospital beds, elevating seats, ceiling tracks, strollers, portable ramps, walking aids, and lift assist chairs.

This is not an exhaustive list and we will consider funding requests for equipment not listed above as well, including home adaptations.

Who is eligible for funding?

We will accept funding requests from applicants of ALL ages (children, youth, adults, and seniors) living in the province of Alberta who require accessibility supports and have been unable to secure funding elsewhere.

How much funding are you able to provide for equipment?

Easter Seals Alberta is able to provide a maximum of $5,000.00 in funding towards a requested piece of equipment. If an applicant’s equipment funding request exceeds this amount, it is the applicant’s responsibility to secure funding for the remaining cost.

Funding requests that are $5,000.00 or less are not guaranteed to receive approval.

Are you still accepting donations of used equipment?

Yes! We are still accepting donations of used equipment that is in good condition and under 5 years old. You can find our “Equipment Donation Form” under the Accessibility Supports page on our website and submit it to accessibilitysupports@easterseals.ab.ca.

Can you arrange pick up of my equipment that I no longer need?

Yes, we are continuing to recycle in equipment that is in good condition. You can find our “Pick Up Request Form” under the Accessibility Supports page on our website and submit it to accessibilitysupports@easterseals.ab.ca.

Can you help me pay to get my equipment fixed?

Unfortunately, we do not provide funding for maintenance requests, including new batteries.

Fundraising

What happened to the Rowing Marathon, Give A Kid A Lift and the Paper Egg Campaign? When will they be rescheduled?

A number of our events have been postponed to a later date. We are working to find suitable dates to reschedule them and will update you as we know more.
