Meet Courtney

Finding my voice, courage, and community.

My name is Courtney and my journey with Easter Seals began several years ago in Winnipeg. I was participating in weekly evening get-togethers with other adults with a variety of disabilities. Through Manitoba Easter Seals we had the opportunity to team up with a professional dancer who worked with us to perform at the Manitoba Easter Seals Dancing with Celebrities fundraiser. What a blast!
 
My family moved to Alberta 14 years ago. It took some time to familiarize ourselves with local agencies. After a few years, I started attending Camp Horizon. Camp was a new world to me. I made many new friends, experienced new activities (like zip-lining), and learned to eat different foods.

There are many favourite memories with Easter Seals Alberta. Attending Camp Horizon and becoming an Ambassador for Easter Seals are right up there. But my fondest moment was speaking at the Kevin Karius Celebrity Golf Classic. The outpouring of support for Easter Seals and me was phenomenal. I can’t remember being in such a positive environment.

Easter Seals Alberta has given me the confidence and courage to speak in front of large groups as anAmbassador. Sharing my life experiences and the challenges I face every day has helped me find my voice. I hope my story inspires others while helping people better understand what it’s like to live with a disability.

When communities support Easter Seals programs, people with disabilities gain access to unlimited resources, opportunities and experiences that help them live life to the fullest. These programs build confidence, encourage independence, and create a sense of belonging that can make a lasting difference.
