Easter Seals Camp

Our Organization

Inspiring Potential. Building Community. Enriching Lives.

Our mission is to provide services that foster inclusion, independence and wellbeing for individuals with disabilities and medical conditions.

Easter Seals Alberta is a registered charity that provides services that foster inclusion, independence and recreation for individuals with disabilities and medical conditions. We have been connecting Albertans with direct services, programs and advocacy since 1951. For nearly three-quarters of a century, Easter Seals Alberta has grown and established several different programs and supports. The organization’s history reflects the needs of the time, as new disability-related organizations have come and gone, and government policies and supports have changed; we have always maintained the same mission: to support the needs of Albertans with disabilities and medical conditions.

Since our humble beginnings, funds raised by the community have supported mental wellness, education, research, and social well-being of people with disabilities. Today, we continue this legacy through our evolving support and programs.

CAMP HORIZON

Camp Horizon is a fully accessible camp located just outside of Bragg Creek, AB, providing year-round inclusive camp experiences for individuals of all ages with disabilities and medical conditions. Camp offers a unique opportunity for campers to experience life-changing outdoor recreation activities, while building self-esteem and independence. Activities challenge their mind and body while creating lasting friendships and lifelong memories.

MCQUEEN HOME

McQueen Home is a self-governed, nine-bedroom home in Edmonton for individuals with a disability looking to achieve more independence, greater inclusion in the community, and access to employment, education and recreation.

FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE

Our compassionate support spans all stages of life, helping families navigate complex systems, access funding, connect with service providers, and engage with natural supports. After spending my career in the health and mental health fields, I had the opportunity to work alongside an Easter Seals program in Edmonton. This introduced me to the excellent work they do as an organization, and I realized my personal values aligned closely with theirs.

Easter Seals Alberta provides essential programs and services for Albertans with disabilities to promote inclusion and accessibility. The programs support clients of all ages in our community to engage in meaningful employment, recreation and community participation. Many years ago, I was an Easter Seals Camp counsellor, and I saw the positive impact the camp had on children and youth. Camp programs designed to meet their varied needs built confidence, independence and a love of the outdoors.. Today, I work with children with disabilities and their families, and Easter Seals is a key resource that I suggest to the families with whom I work.

I am pleased to contribute to the Easter Seals organization, as it resonates with many of my life experiences.  Growing up with a physical disability, it was important to me to enjoy the same opportunities and experiences as my peers.  I have many cherished memories of going to camp with the Boy Scouts organization, and being able to participate in many, but not all, of the same activities as my friends.  These were formative experiences, and I’m proud to play a part in ensuring others will have access to these experiences as well.

I’m proud to be involved with Easter Seals Alberta because their approach is clear, direct, and genuinely helpful to those who need it most, through real-world support for individuals and families navigating disability. Their programs deliver dignity, independence, and opportunity, and I appreciate the opportunity to help further that mission.

I am pleased to be part of a team that works so hard to support vulnerable individuals. I was honoured to work with Easter Seals campers in Squamish in my youth. 25 years later, I am excited to continue working with these amazing children and adults with disabilities and medical conditions who overcome challenges daily. #myeverydayheros
