LEAD is a classic summer camp leadership program with a twist. We'll do what you'd expect from a leadership camp: leadership sessions, camp activities, pure fun, and a multi-day backcountry trip. The twist? We're looking for young people who are looking to gain an understanding of challenges people with various special needs face. Throughout your weeks at camp you will learn about different disabilities and chronic illnesses, experience the outdoors, and then combine these two skills to lead an outdoors trip for a group of individuals with special needs.
What You Can Expect
3-night backpacking trip
Sessions about different disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, deaf and hard of hearing, kidney disease, and epilepsy
Outdoors skills training
Camp activities (high ropes, archery, biking, swimming, giant swing, and more)
Intensive leadership training in areas of communication, conflict resolution, initiative, and others
- Hands-on practice programming for people with special needs
Alberta high school students can earn 5 high school credits for attending the LEAD program. It's really simple - just a couple of workbooks that you will have time to complete in the evenings while you attend the program.
Please note: LEAD is an application based program. It requires an application form to be completed by your camper. Upon receipt of their application, interviews will be conducted to be sure that this is the program best suited to them.
