AGES: 15-20

CAMPER FEE: $1,050

LEAP is a program for youth and young adults (aged 15-20) with a physical disability or mild cognitive disability who are looking to branch out of ‘typical’ summer camp program and into a program that will help you gain independence. With training in public speaking, communication, leadership theory, and outdoor activities, this program is two hard-hitting weeks of building friendships, classroom-like sessions, and camp activities to learn how you can be an advocate for yourself and others.

What You Can Expect:

· Leadership training in areas such as communication and taking initiative,

· Public speaking training,

· Camp activities (high ropes, archery, biking, swimming, giant swing, and more),

· Overnight camping trip,

· Preparing a final project about your life.

Credit Program

Alberta high school students can earn three high school credits for attending the LEAP program. It’s really simple – just a couple of workbooks that you will have time to complete in the evenings while you attend the program.

Please note: LEAP is now an application based program. It requires an application form to be completed by your camper. Upon receipt of their application, interviews will be conducted to be sure that this is the program best suited to them. Because of new changes to the focus of the program, having come to LEAP before does not guarantee a place in the program this year.

Outdoor Education Groups

Outdoor Education Groups

Easter Seals Alberta’s Camp Horizon runs Outdoor Education programs in the Spring, Fall and Winter seasons. We use the beautiful outdoors as our classroom and adventure activities as our lessons of topic. We believe that getting students outside to learn in nature is so important and is a lost opportunity in today’s modern world. Throughout their time at camp, our goal is to build personal and interpersonal relationships by facilitating group discussion and self reflection. We help students understand the “why” behind the “what”, relating the skills we learn at camp to the real world.

We allow space for students to develop as a group in areas of trust, communication and cooperation through shared decision making and problem solving. Through these experiences, students discover an increased confidence in themselves and their abilities to think critically, take calculated risks and contribute positively to a team. For more information contact us at 403-949-3818 or camphorizon@easterseals.ab.ca.
