For the Oller family, Marga’s porch lift isn’t just an assistive device, it’s a lifeline.
Raising a child with a disability comes with unique challenges, but for the Oller family, support from Easter Seals Alberta has made all the difference. Discover how a porch lift transformed their lives and brought them newfound independence, safety, and joy.
Welcoming each child into their lives has been a source of joy for the Oller family. However, life took a different path than expected when Marga, their first child, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at seven months old.
“It’s like you feel shocked, like you cannot believe it.
It’s really happening,” says Abegail, Marga’s mom.
Over the years, the Oller family adapted with love, patience, and resilience. But as Marga grew and began using a wheelchair, it became clear their home lacked the necessary modifications. Her father had to carry her down the porch stairs, posing a significant safety risk for their growing family. Unfortunately, faced with a significant price tag for the modification, making their home safe for everyone seemed out of reach. That’s when they turned to Easter Seals Alberta for help.
Thanks to the generosity of our incredible donors, the Oller family was approved for a porch lift, which was installed last fall. This simple but essential piece of equipment transformed their day-to-day life. “Now, I can take Marga outside every day, even without help,” Abegail shared. “It’s made all the difference in getting to appointments and enjoying time together as a family.”
For Marga’s family, it’s more than just a
porch lift — it’s a lifeline.
